ROCSAUT orientation!
Yesterday the server was down, so I couldn't post. I'm going to try and remember what I did on these two days
What did I learn today?
- Stereographic projection - rotations!
- Why there are exceptions in the trends in the periodic table - why the hell are we still learning this stuff? We learned trends in the periodic table in like grade 11, and now we are STILL learning it?
- Steel mills like material science engineers
- You can probably get a job with a civil engineering firm if you say that you work with sustainability
- Materials people can pretty much steal any mech/chem job
- You don't have to dress so much for a job fair. A dress shirt and jeans will put you ahead of half the people there.
- I can still speak/understand a lot of Chinese
- Most people in ROCSAUT (republic of china students at university of toronto) are immigrants - and thus it is a great place to practice chinese. Horrible place to practice english
- ROCSAUT has badminton intramurals
- You can study in the room next to the MSE common room if there isn't any classes there. It's better that Gerstien almost.
- Quality assurance engineering with materials actually utilizes a lot of MSE concepts. They do grain boundary things and look how planes line up and things at a molecular level
What happened today that was unexpected?
- I spoke more Chinese today than I have in an entire year
- Finished class at 10:30am (the MSE219 practical)
- Alvin came in and interrupted my studying with chatting
Accomplishments?
- Met a lot of people in ROCSAUT
- Signed up for badminton intramurals
- Found job positions in civil firms/steel mills
- Got the SOC101 books from Terra
- Read some of the book with notes
- Got 5% participation marks from the MAT290 tutorial
Disappointments?
- I coudln't sleep until 2am - possibly because of the coke I had at lunch
Future Goals?
